  Happy 60th WKBI!

 Do You Remember...

Gibby Hoffman, WKBI sports.

John Salter and Johnny Knorr Thanks to George and Gloria Bauer for sharing these pictures!

WKBI-AM 1400 signed on for the very first time in July, 1950. We have been receiving calls and letters from former employees and listeners for several weeks.

Above, Mark Portzer, a former St. Marys resident, who stopped in to chat about his affection for WKBI with John Salter. Mark, a radio veteran in Virginia, was a huge fan of WKBI back in the days that Johnny Knorr was managing the station and also on the air. Mark recalled "Andy Volvo", a popular night DJ on WKBI back in the 60s and 70s.

Mark had an interest in a career in radio, and unfortunately, since there were no openings at WKBI at the time, Mark moved to Virginia, where he had a long career with several stations, including, 1240 WROV, K-92 and WFIR.

Thanks Mark for stopping in and sharing the memories. If you have memories to share, please send us an e-mail. b94@ncentral.net.

Do You Remember WKBI Then?
